Howdy folks! This prompt took me down a thoughtful path about getting older, relationships, and how some things shift while others stay steady. Somewhere along the way, it became a silly little love song. Happy Holidays & thanks as always for coming along. Constants and Variables When the shine starts wearing thin And the years are settling in Will you miss the way it was Or love the shape we’re in? When my jokes all fall flat Will you still pretend to laugh? When I’m old, tired and gray Will you still turn your head my way? Oh I don’t know, but I guess We’ll do our best to find out together When you know I’m wrong, but I swear I’m right Will you keep it up or let it slide? Call me out or hold your tongue? After everything we’ve done? If my hand shakes when it pours the wine Will you still reach out for mine? Will you lean in when it’s hard? Will you love us the way we are? Oh I don’t know, but I guess We’ll do our best to find out together When the silence fills the room Will you break it or just assume? We’ve run out of things to say But Honey, I don’t think we will ever see that day Oh I don’t know, but I guess We’ll do our best Oh I can't say, if it comes down to the wire We’ll cross that bridge when it’s on fire
